the city view from my window
i moved from a fairly quiet neighbourhood into an apartment in the city recently. one of the biggest and first things i noticed was the view from my window.
in my old place, i saw a lamp post and a couple of trees. over here however, opening the curtains at night means a totally different view. i see tall buildings with flashy lights- and cars. lots and lots of cars. there's a billboard which is on most of the day, save a few hours at night.
and once the curtains are closed, the city 'turns off'. my room goes dark again. the city no longer exists, it's just me on my bed. and this was definitely what really got me- how it could go from lively and constant movement to just- dark.
i can't say whether this change has been a good or a bad thing. maybe it's neither, or maybe it's a bit of both. but it most certainly is interesting- and will, for reasons even i am not sure of, continue to fascinate me.
