lizzie's thoughts

it's really interesting to listen to people's niche interests

i went to a plant workshop organised by a local community, and they invited a few people to give small presentations.

the first one was talking about composting- and how it's something he has been doing for close to 20 years. he explained all the science related to composting, and some things that he picked up while doing it for so long.

the other presenter called herself a 'citrus alchemist'. she specialised in growing lemons, and showed us some tips to grow out own. she told us the right colours of the leaves, how much to cut off while pruning and when to remove flowers to ensure only big lemons grow.

i don't know why exactly, but i really enjoyed listening to them both speak about these very specific topics that i never really gave much thought to. maybe it was because they engaged with their audiences: by letting us taste the lemons and fill the compost cage up. or maybe it was the passion that they spoke with and the experiences they explained. the presentations were lovely.

if you have a niche interest, do share it with other people. we might not be able to contribute much, but we would certainly love to listen
